A cracked tooth on a Saturday morning. A throbbing ache that keeps you up all night. A crown that pops off right before a big meeting. Dental problems rarely wait for a convenient time, and when one hits, you want to know exactly where to go. Eurodental Studio has two offices close to home, one on Fresh Pond Road in Ridgewood, Queens and one on Java Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and both keep room in the schedule for urgent visits.
This guide covers what counts as a dental emergency, how to reach each of our offices, what to do before you arrive, and what happens once you are in the chair.
What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
Not every dental problem needs same-day care, but some do. Call us right away if you have any of the following:
- Severe or throbbing tooth pain that does not let up
- A knocked-out adult tooth
- A cracked, chipped, or broken tooth that hurts or has sharp edges
- Swelling in your gums, jaw, or face
- A pimple-like bump on your gum, which can be a sign of infection
- A lost filling or crown that leaves the tooth sore or exposed
- Bleeding that will not stop after an extraction or injury
Some situations need a hospital first. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling that spreads toward your eye or neck, a high fever with facial swelling, or a possible broken jaw, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. The American Dental Association also recommends the emergency room if a dental injury happens when your dental office is closed.

Which Office Should You Call?
Because the two offices keep different hours, you can usually reach one of them six days a week. Here is a quick guide:
- Monday through Thursday: Both offices are open. Call whichever one is closer to you.
- Friday: Call Ridgewood at (718) 417-4544.
- Saturday: Call Greenpoint at (718) 389-1120.
- Sunday: Both offices are closed. For severe swelling, heavy bleeding, or a facial injury, go to the emergency room. For anything else, call us first thing Monday.
Calling ahead matters. It lets our team know you are coming, ask a few questions about your symptoms, and fit you into the schedule as quickly as possible.
What to Do Before You Get to Our Office
A few simple steps at home can protect your tooth and ease your pain on the way in:
- Knocked-out tooth. Pick it up by the top, not the root. If you can, gently place it back in the socket. If not, keep it moist in milk or tucked between your cheek and gum, and get to us right away. Time matters most with this one.
- Cracked or broken tooth. Rinse your mouth with warm water and hold a cold compress on your cheek to keep swelling down. Save any pieces you find.
- Toothache. Rinse with warm water and gently floss to clear out any trapped food. Do not put aspirin directly on the tooth or gum, since it can irritate the tissue.
- Lost crown or filling. Keep the crown in a small bag and bring it with you. Avoid chewing on that side until you are seen.
- Swelling. Use a cold compress on the outside of your face and call us. Swelling can point to an infection that needs care soon.
What Happens at Your Emergency Visit
Our first goal is to get you out of pain. Our second is to fix the problem so it does not come back. Here is what to expect:
- A quick check-in. We review your symptoms, health history, and any medications you take.
- An exam and imaging. We look closely at the area and take X-rays. When we need a fuller view of the tooth, root, or jaw, our digital imaging gives us a detailed picture in seconds.
- Relief first. We numb the area and treat the pain before we talk through bigger decisions.
- A clear plan. You hear what is going on, what your options are, and what each one costs before any further treatment starts.
Many emergencies can be handled in that same visit. Depending on what we find, treatment might include a filling, dental bonding for a chipped tooth, a root canal for an infected nerve, a tooth extraction when a tooth cannot be saved, or a temporary crown while a permanent one is made. Because our team includes general dentists, an endodontist, periodontists, and an oral surgeon, most patients can be treated without being sent somewhere else.
If you feel anxious about dental work, tell us when you call. We offer sedation options, including laughing gas, to help you stay calm.
Paying for Emergency Dental Care
An emergency is stressful enough without surprise bills. We accept most major PPO plans, including Aetna, Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, and Guardian, and we check your benefits up front. Learn more on our insurance page.
If you need treatment your plan does not fully cover, we offer financing through Cherry, Sunbit, and CareCredit so you can spread out payments. You get a written quote before we move ahead with anything beyond pain relief.
How to Lower Your Risk of a Dental Emergency
You cannot prevent every accident, but a few habits go a long way:
- Wear a custom mouth guard for contact sports.
- Ask about a night guard if you grind or clench your teeth while you sleep.
- Skip chewing ice, popcorn kernels, and hard candy.
- Use scissors, not your teeth, to open packages.
- Keep up with regular exams and cleanings, which help us catch small problems before they turn into painful ones.
